Why the Perfect Time Doesn’t Exist: Lessons on Starting Anyway
How often do we find ourselves saying, “I’ll start when the time is right”? Whether it’s pursuing a dream, changing a habit, or taking a risk, we convince ourselves that the perfect moment is just around the corner. But here’s the hard truth: the perfect time doesn’t exist.
I’ve spent more time than I’d like to admit waiting—waiting for stability, for inspiration, for signs that I’m ready. But life doesn’t work that way. If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that waiting for perfection often means waiting forever.
The Illusion of Readiness
When we imagine the perfect time, what we’re really doing is seeking comfort. We want to feel prepared, fearless, and confident before we begin. But readiness isn’t something you wait for—it’s something you create by taking action.
The reality is, you’ll never feel completely ready to start something meaningful. There will always be doubts, distractions, and reasons to delay. But if you wait for all the pieces to fall into place, you’ll miss the chance to grow through the process of doing.
Start Where You Are
When I decided to create this blog, I hesitated. I told myself I wasn’t a good enough writer, that I didn’t have enough time, and that my ideas weren’t polished enough to share. But deep down, I knew those were just excuses. If I kept waiting, I’d never start.
So, I began with what I had: a desire to write and a willingness to learn. And here I am, writing my first post—not because it’s perfect, but because it’s the first step toward something bigger.
Starting doesn’t require perfection; it requires courage. And courage, I’ve found, often comes from simply taking the next small step.
Lessons from Philosophy
Philosophy has taught me that life’s greatest rewards often come from embracing uncertainty. As Epictetus said, “How long are you going to wait before you demand the best for yourself?” The answer is simple: don’t wait. Start now, even if it feels messy or incomplete.
Every philosopher, writer, and creator began somewhere. They weren’t perfect when they started, but they chose to begin anyway. Their journey didn’t happen in an ideal moment—it happened because they took action despite their fears.
Embrace Imperfection
Here’s the thing about starting: it won’t be perfect, and that’s okay. Perfection is overrated. What matters is the effort, the growth, and the lessons you learn along the way. Starting imperfectly is still better than not starting at all.
So, if there’s something you’ve been dreaming of doing, stop waiting. Whether it’s writing, creating, learning, or taking a leap of faith, start where you are. The perfect time isn’t a point in the future—it’s right now.
Let’s Begin
This blog is my imperfect start. It’s my way of showing up, sharing my thoughts, and learning as I go. I’m not waiting for perfection, and neither should you.
Whatever it is you’ve been putting off, take the first step today. You don’t need to be perfect. You just need to begin. Let’s figure it out together, one step at a time. Welcome to Taipwriter.
